What Does Fostering A Dog Entail?

Updated: Aug 21, 2021

We Need Fosters & Volunteers!
We Need Fosters & Volunteers!

When you foster, you agree to take a rescued dog into your home and give him or her love, care and attention, either for a predetermined period of time or until the dog is adopted into their forever home.

Everything you need for the dog is provided to you, food, toys, leashes, and medical care.

All you need to do is open your home and heart. Seeing the dog(s) you have cared for going to a happy family and knowing they have found someone to love them is the best reward.

We strive to have a dog in foster care for only a few weeks.

Why does Sato Heart Rescue need foster homes?

There are many reasons a dog might need foster care, but our main reason is because we are a 'shelter-less' rescue. Meaning we don't really have a physical building or kennel system to house the dogs; we depends on foster homes to care for the dogs until they are able to find a suitable home.

Some other reason may include:

  • The dog is recovering from surgery, illness or injury and needs a safe place to recuperate.

  • The dog is showing signs of stress such as pacing or hiding in the crate.

  • The dog has not lived in a home before or has not had much contact with people and other animals and needs to be socialized.

Why should I foster a dog?

Other than actually adopting a rescue dog, fostering a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have! By fostering, you give a dog a chance to settle into a stable and quieter environment than it has been accustomed to.

By taking a dog temporarily into your home you are:

Giving your foster dog the time he/she needs to be ready for the big adoption day.

Helping the rescue gather information on the dog so that they can learn more about the dog's true personality; which in turn will help the rescue match the dog with their perfect forever family.

Socializing the dog to a home environment and possibly getting them used to being around other pets and different types of people and situations.

Giving them the love and attention they so deserve before being adopted into a loving home forever.
